This guide lists the different points at which the player may need to do some specific tasks in order to get the optimal outcome of the plot.

The Blackview Siege[]
The events of Blackview City eventually culminates in a confrontation between the player character and Scarlett, followed by her suicide. In order to prevent her from doing so, the player must either:
-Retrieve their old bow in the Old Woodland before the beginning of the siege, if they sided with Shiv back at Weeping Hill
-Have sided with Nova during the events of Weeping Hill but decides to battle Scarlett regardless when offered the choice to.
The Cellia Archives[]
The events of the Archives at Cellia Central end up being interrupted by a confrontation between Shiv and Aurora, ending on Aurora murdering Nova. In order to save Nova, the player must:
-Have completed Rosetta's optionnal request earlier of talking to the police chief and battling a rogue Nidoking in the Cellia Sewers, and have reported to both the police chief and Rosetta. This leads to Rosetta giving the player the Archives Key.
-During the exploration of the archives, read all of Aurora's Diaries, including the missing one that can be found using said Archives Key in the locked room on the right.
-During the confrontation, side with Shiv over Aurora.
-After defeating Aurora, on her second questions, answer "She saved Shiv's life".
Exploring the Dreamscape[]
In order to be able to resist Darkrai's influence during the ending choice, the player must find various elements in the Dreamscape that prompt a "A feeling of curiosity washes over you" text box. There are nine prompts in total, and you need six to successfully resist.
Note that one specific prompt is only available during the first trip to the Dreamscape, and that telling Tristan about the vision the player encounters after finding the last of Booker's books in Dreamscape Wildlands East will up the prompt check difficulty by one, so that the player would need seven prompts to resist Darkrai.
As for the location of the prompts:
-Five of them can be found in Aurora's Manor by interacting with the various shiny points in the manor.
-One can be found in the Dreamscape Wildlands South cave, by reading the mural guarded by a Black Fox. This prompt has double the influence of the other prompts, meaning that the player can just get five prompts to resist Darkrai if this one is one of them.
-One can be found in by following the sidequest starting in Odis Village of a guy claiming to be stalked by a girl. Finding the girl in the South settlement and listening to her side of the story and confronting the guy about it rewards you with the Wildlands Key, that you can use to open a house in the West Settlement to find another book with the prompt.
-One is in the house in the Dreamscape Wildlands North, in the house with the former Crescent member asking you to talk to a girl in the Dreamscape Wildlands East on his behalf. There are various endings to this quest, and picking the one where you never tell the girl about Fred seems to lock you out of getting the prompt, so pick one of the other two. The optimal ending to that quest from a plot standpoint is telling the girl your name, then telling her about Fred, then telling her to choose Reality.
-Finally, as you go back to Aurora's mansion after finding Booker's books, right before going to bed to return to Cellia, go back to the Town Hall in Odis Village and read the book in the left room that is now available. It cannot be done any earlier, and you don't get access to the book in the second trip until after you fend off Darkrai.
The second trip to the Dreamscape culminates in the player meeting Darkrai, who tries to lure the player into siding with them. Taking Darkrai's hand when offered the opportunity leads to the player becoming their pawn but continuing the story, while rejecting their offer either leads to a Bad Ending if the player didn't get enough prompts, unless the player had saved Nova prior, OR leads to the best ending if the check is met and the player had saved Nova.
